Make a full backup of Prestashop 1.6 by putting it in Maintenance. If your host didn't make a backup overnight, chances are that backup will be restored. All files from your 1.6 should be deleted and replaced with those from your 1.7. You will save time if you are able to perform all these manipulations on a single server. You can copy the files through your server's BO. Normal time is 4-6 hours. On the same server, it takes 10 minutes. It's the same for the database. If you are on the same server, you don't need to touch anything. On the other hand, if your server is changed, you will have to modify PARAMETER.PHP, which is under APP/CONFIG, and enter your parameters.
